On April 22nd, 淫人色欲社 welcomed students and faculty to the Hillside for the last installment of our Pathways Series panels, Careers in Sports. The panel featured two accomplished professionals whose journeys from athletics to leadership roles on the global stage offered powerful insights into teamwork, communication, and career adaptability.

Whit Mitchell 鈥72, CEO & President of Working InSync and former renowned crew coach at Dartmouth, brought both humor and depth to the conversation. Reflecting on his time on the Hillside, Whit shared memorable and often funny stories that resonated with students while reinforcing a central theme: the importance of being a great teammate. Drawing from decades of experience advising CEOs and professional sports organizations, he emphasized that effective communication is not one-size-fits-all.

Through interactive exercises, Whit engaged students in exploring personality attributes, demonstrating how leaders must adapt their communication styles to bring out the best in individuals. His message was clear: understanding how others think and operate is essential to building strong, high-performing teams.

Michael Donaghey, Senior Director of Global Safety & Security at PayPal and former Deputy Chief Security Officer for the NBA, shared a compelling and deeply personal journey. From his days as a student-athlete at Brown University where he competed in both football and baseball to a career-altering injury that shifted his path, Michael spoke candidly about resilience, reinvention, and the importance of being a good teammate on the court and in life.

He went on to serve in the United States Secret Service, protecting two U.S. Presidents and traveling the world, before transitioning into leadership roles in professional sports and global security. Today, his work focuses on protecting people and organizations in an increasingly complex digital landscape.

Michael highlighted the growing sophistication of bad actors in the digital space and offered practical advice on how individuals can better protect themselves. His message underscored the importance of awareness, vigilance, and adaptability in a world where security challenges are constantly evolving.

Together, the panelists reinforced that the lessons learned through athletics teamwork, communication, perseverance, and leadership extend far beyond the field. Students left with a deeper understanding of how those skills can translate into meaningful and dynamic careers across industries.
The Pathways Series continues to provide South Kent students with unique access to alumni and industry leaders, offering real-world perspectives that inspire and inform their journeys beyond the Hillside.

As spring takes hold on the Hillside, South Kent is doing more than preparing for the season. It is growing it. This year, for the first time, many of the ornamental flowers that will define the beauty of Main Campus for Prize Day and Alumni Weekend are being cultivated by students at North Campus.

Through a new pilot program, the North Campus afternoon work crew has taken on the challenge of growing decorative plantings on-site, creating a more sustainable, student-driven approach to campus beautification. The result is a full-circle effort. Flowers seeded, nurtured, and brought to life by students will ultimately be enjoyed by the entire community during some of the School鈥檚 most important moments of celebration.

Inside the hoophouse, students were tasked with a complex design challenge. They needed to expand production to include ornamental plants without sacrificing existing vegetable crops. Their solution was both efficient and inventive. By designing and constructing elevated growing platforms eighteen inches above the raised beds, they created a dual-use system that increases growing capacity while maintaining established yields.

Below, the original beds have been seeded with red clover, enriching the soil through carbon capture and supporting long-term ecological health. This layered approach reflects a thoughtful balance between productivity and sustainability.

Beyond the hoophouse, students have built two large seed-starting shelves equipped with LED grow lights. These systems have allowed them to begin cultivation earlier despite the challenges of a long and unpredictable winter. Ten varieties have already been started indoors and will soon transition to the hoophouse before making their way to Main Campus.

The program includes a vibrant mix of species, including begonias, Dusty Miller, coleus, dahlias, impatiens, nasturtium, salvia, zinnias, and dichondra. Together, these plantings will transform the campus landscape. This effort is made all the more meaningful by the fact that they have been grown by hand, on-site, by South Kent students.

This initiative represents more than seasonal preparation. It is a living example of student ownership, sustainability in practice, and the enduring connection between North Campus and the broader life of the School.

淫人色欲社, an independent boarding school for boys in grades 9鈥12 and postgraduates, today announced that it has been awarded a $100,000 grant from the Advisory Board of the Edward E. Ford Foundation to support and expand its Cardinal Strong Program, a comprehensive initiative focused on emotional resilience, mental wellness, and healthy decision-making for young men.

Through the remarkable leadership of the Class of 1974 and additional South Kent donors, every dollar awarded unlocked a 2:1 match. Now, with $428,000 already raised, the Class of 1974 has set a powerful standard of commitment to this program鈥檚 success.

Rooted in South Kent鈥檚 Trinity of Values, Simplicity of Life, Self-Reliance, and Directness of Purpose, Cardinal Strong is designed to equip students with the emotional intelligence, coping strategies, and leadership skills necessary to navigate the increasing pressures of modern adolescence. As outlined in the School鈥檚 grant proposal, the program provides structured emotional resilience education for students in grades 9鈥12, alongside faculty training, media literacy instruction, alternative wellness experiences, and expanded access to counseling support.

鈥淎t South Kent, we believe resilience is not incidental. It must be taught, modeled, and practiced,鈥 said Brian D. Sullivan, Head of School. 鈥淭he Edward E. Ford Foundation鈥檚 investment affirms that preparing young men for life requires more than academic rigor. It requires intentional formation through emotional literacy, healthy masculinity, and the courage to seek help when needed. We are profoundly grateful to the Class of 1974 and our alumni community for stepping forward to ensure this work moves forward at full strength.鈥

With this funding, Cardinal Strong will expand key partnerships with organizations that provide structured programming in emotional resilience, stress management, and leadership development. The grant will also support media literacy training to help students navigate digital stress and misinformation, faculty professional development in mental health awareness, guest speakers and workshops, and access to consulting clinical neuropsychological support for students who may otherwise lack resources.

The initiative aligns directly with South Kent鈥檚 core competency framework, particularly its emphasis on Emotional Resilience, defined by the School as the ability to manage adversity, regulate emotions, and maintain a positive and disciplined outlook in the face of challenges.

The Edward E. Ford Foundation, long recognized for strengthening independent schools nationwide, selected Cardinal Strong as a program that advances student well-being in a proactive and sustainable manner. South Kent plans to deploy the funds over the next four years to build infrastructure, provide professional development, refine assessment tools, and position Cardinal Strong for long-term endowment support.

Beyond establishing the endowed fund for Cardinal Strong, this initiative will equip every South Kent student with structured resilience training, expand alternative wellness programming, integrate digital literacy into the curriculum, and ensure that no student is denied access to counseling resources because of financial constraints.
鈥淭he Class of 1974 understood immediately that this is not simply a program, it is a true commitment to the formation of young men,鈥 Sullivan added. 鈥淭heir leadership inspired others to join them. Cardinal Strong is a community-wide investment in character, health, and purpose.鈥

As South Kent enters its second century, Cardinal Strong reflects the School鈥檚 enduring mission: to prepare young men to succeed in college and thrive as thoughtful, engaged citizens in an increasingly complex world.

淫人色欲社 has released its , delivered by its 10th Head of School, Brian Sullivan, marking a defining moment in the School鈥檚 history and formally launching , the most ambitious financial endeavor in the School鈥檚 103-year history.

Recorded in St. Michael鈥檚 Chapel, the address reflects on the School鈥檚 momentum and outlines a clear and definitive path forward. 鈥淎s South Kent enters its second century, our mission to form young men of character, resilience, and purpose remains as vital today as it was in 1923,鈥 Sullivan shared. 鈥淎t the midpoint of my third year as Head of School, I am deeply encouraged by the momentum across the Hillside.鈥

That momentum includes record growth in The South Kent Fund, the highest boarding enrollment in the School鈥檚 history, expanded academic and co-curricular offerings, and a revitalized North Campus now serving as a living classroom. Sullivan emphasized that these gains are not accidental, but the result of a dedicated community working quietly and steadily to ensure the School is prepared not only to endure, but to lead.

The address also introduces The South Kent Initiative, a multi-year effort designed to position the School for long-term, sustainable growth by investing in its people, programs, and place. As of February 2026, South Kent has already raised $28 million in gifts and future commitments toward the Initiative, with $17 million remaining to reach its goal.

鈥淭his is a moment of shared responsibility,鈥 Sullivan noted in his remarks. 鈥淥ne that calls for thoughtful investment in our people, programs, and place.鈥 To that end, the School announced that all funds raised between now and June 30, 2028 will count toward The South Kent Initiative, including gifts made during , taking place on Tuesday, February 24.

With this announcement, South Kent invites alumni, parents, grandparents, friends, and community partners to participate in shaping the School鈥檚 next chapter. 鈥淲ith your partnership,鈥 Sullivan said, 鈥渨e can continue building on our proud legacy and help write the next chapter of South Kent鈥檚 storied Hillside.鈥

淫人色欲社 joyfully continued one of its most cherished traditions last night with the annual Nativity Play, presented at 7:30 PM in the heart of St. Michael鈥檚 Chapel. For those unable to join us in person, the and will remain available for viewing throughout the holiday season.

For nearly a century, this beloved play has anchored the South Kent holiday experience. The Nativity Play is far more than a performance; it is a reverent retelling of the Christmas story through the Gospel accounts of Luke and Matthew. As The Reverend Father Klots, School Chaplain, shares, 鈥淭he Nativity Play uses scripture from the King James Version of the Bible to recount the birth of Jesus. It also uses many of the great Christmas carols, ones that almost everyone knows like O Come, All Ye Faithful, to echo and proclaim that same story. The script that we use is the very same one compiled in the late 1920s.鈥

Head of School Brian D. Sullivan reflects on the enduring nature of this experience: 鈥淲hat makes this play so special is not just its heartfelt storytelling, but its ability to resonate deeply with the students. While many traditions have evolved since South Kent鈥檚 founding in 1923, some are more than customs, they are woven into the fabric of our daily life. This is one tradition that stands out as uniquely South Kent, something we do once a year that truly defines us
Father Klots echoes this sentiment: 鈥淚t鈥檚 the event that leaves a lasting imprint on all who experience it, creating memories that connect generations of graduates. For all who hold South Kent dear, especially at this sacred time of year.鈥

The evening followed the School鈥檚 Formal Christmas Dinner at 5:30 PM and brought together students, faculty, and families in celebration of the season. We are grateful to everyone who joined us in person and online, and we invite all members of the wider South Kent community to revisit the recording and share in this moment of warmth, reflection, and joy.
