Kicking Off the Year with Flavor and Fun at North Campus

On Friday, September 12, we proudly launched our first major culinary event of the 2025-26 academic year in the North Campus kitchen, and what a fantastic evening it was. The night brought students together for an enjoyable cooking experience, flavored by laughter and creativity.

The highlight of the evening was a special twist on the popular Chopped competition, where teams of students faced off in a friendly culinary showdown, making the most of our incredible North Campus kitchen and classroom. These sessions are crafted to spark curiosity and develop culinary skills, challenging participants to combine speed, technique, and imagination under time pressure.

How does it all work? Each team is given a basic overview of their dish, and from there, it’s up to them to bring the flavors to life. This week鈥檚 theme embraced global cuisine, spotlighting Indian culinary traditions. Participants took on the challenge of crafting a flavorful Mulligatawny soup appetizer, followed by a curry chicken entr茅e.

Three enthusiastic teams, each聽made up of two talented boys, stepped into the kitchen arena. With ten minutes for brainstorming聽and planning, followed by 30鈥45 minutes of cooking, they raced against the clock to prepare and beautifully plate their dishes for our discerning judges.

Our amazing participants included: Pat C., Kevin H., Aidan S., John D., Yuri N., Robert K., and Julian V. From bold, authentic flavors to wildly creative off-menu innovations, including the peculiar “chicken cookie,鈥 the evening was packed with surprises and memorable moments!

After much deliberation, the judges awarded Julian V. and John D. first prize for their perfectly spiced chicken curry served over rice鈥攁 true standout dish!

We鈥檙e excited to continue this culinary journey with more Chopped competitions and other cooking events throughout the year. The energy and enthusiasm shown by our students are just the beginning of what promises to be a deliciously rewarding year. Special thanks goes out to Ms. Borsavage for all of her help and enthusiasm on getting the event off the ground.
