淫人色欲社 has released its , delivered by its 10th Head of School, Brian Sullivan, marking a defining moment in the School鈥檚 history and formally launching , the most ambitious financial endeavor in the School鈥檚 103-year history.

Recorded in St. Michael鈥檚 Chapel, the address reflects on the School鈥檚 momentum and outlines a clear and definitive path forward. 鈥淎s South Kent enters its second century, our mission to form young men of character, resilience, and purpose remains as vital today as it was in 1923,鈥 Sullivan shared. 鈥淎t the midpoint of my third year as Head of School, I am deeply encouraged by the momentum across the Hillside.鈥

That momentum includes record growth in The South Kent Fund, the highest boarding enrollment in the School鈥檚 history, expanded academic and co-curricular offerings, and a revitalized North Campus now serving as a living classroom. Sullivan emphasized that these gains are not accidental, but the result of a dedicated community working quietly and steadily to ensure the School is prepared not only to endure, but to lead.

The address also introduces The South Kent Initiative, a multi-year effort designed to position the School for long-term, sustainable growth by investing in its people, programs, and place. As of February 2026, South Kent has already raised $28 million in gifts and future commitments toward the Initiative, with $17 million remaining to reach its goal.

鈥淭his is a moment of shared responsibility,鈥 Sullivan noted in his remarks. 鈥淥ne that calls for thoughtful investment in our people, programs, and place.鈥 To that end, the School announced that all funds raised between now and June 30, 2028 will count toward The South Kent Initiative, including gifts made during , taking place on Tuesday, February 24.

With this announcement, South Kent invites alumni, parents, grandparents, friends, and community partners to participate in shaping the School鈥檚 next chapter. 鈥淲ith your partnership,鈥 Sullivan said, 鈥渨e can continue building on our proud legacy and help write the next chapter of South Kent鈥檚 storied Hillside.鈥

As the Lunar New Year festivities continue, 淫人色欲社 reflects on the vibrant celebrations that brought the Hillside community together. The Lunar New Year, which began on January 29, 2025, marks the start of the new year according to the lunar calendar and is one of the most widely celebrated holidays across the world.

Observed primarily in many Asian cultures鈥攊ncluding Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, Singaporean, Malaysian, Filipino, and Indonesian traditions鈥擫unar New Year is a time of family reunions, festive meals, and cultural traditions that vary from country to country. A key aspect of the celebration is gathering with loved ones to share meals and welcome the prosperity of the new year.

South Kent students shared personal insights into how their families celebrate the holiday. George Wu 鈥27, a student from Southern China, explained that chicken is a significant dish in his family鈥檚 Lunar New Year feast. 鈥淭he main thing we eat is chicken,鈥 he shared. 鈥淐antonese people love to eat chicken, and it is always on the table during Lunar New Year.鈥

For other families, the focus is less on specific dishes and more on the time spent together. Jason Zhou 鈥27, another South Kent student from China, described his family鈥檚 traditions: 鈥淭here isn鈥檛 a typical big event for us. We simply prepare a larger meal than usual, take our time at dinner, and enjoy conversation with family.鈥

In the spirit of inclusivity and cultural appreciation, 淫人色欲社 embraced the Lunar New Year with special events designed to bring the community together.
鈥 Lantern-Making in the Dining Hall 鈥 Students created vibrant paper lanterns to decorate the dining hall, symbolizing reconciliation with the past and prosperity for the year ahead.
鈥 Cultural Dinner Experience 鈥 The dining hall featured traditional Asian dishes, giving students and faculty the opportunity to experience and appreciate the rich culinary heritage of the holiday.

By incorporating these celebrations, 淫人色欲社 honors the diversity of its student body while fostering a deeper understanding of global traditions. As South Kent celebrates Lunar New Year, the School is also preparing for a historic moment鈥攐ur first-ever alumni reunion in Asia, as part of our Centennial celebrations. The trip will begin in Shanghai on March 29, 2025, followed by alumni gatherings in Seoul and Tokyo, strengthening global alumni connections.

To kick off this exciting journey, Professor Sukehiro Hasegawa 鈥62 will deliver a special talk on Friday, February 7th, sharing memories from his time on the Hillside and insights from his distinguished career in international diplomacy. Reflecting on his experience, he shared, 鈥淪outh Kent instilled in me a deep sense of curiosity and resilience. I am honored to share my journey and discuss how the lessons I learned on the Hillside have shaped my work in international diplomacy.鈥

For more information about the Pathways Series Talks, please contact Lara Barrett, Director of External Affairs.

This upcoming trip will be an opportunity for alumni to reconnect, celebrate South Kent鈥檚 lasting impact, and reinforce the strong ties within our global community.

With the Lunar New Year celebrations bringing students together on the Hillside and the upcoming Asia reunion set to strengthen alumni connections worldwide, 淫人色欲社 continues to honor tradition while embracing the future.

Maggie was a cornerstone of 淫人色欲社 during her family鈥檚 tenure on the Hillside, where her husband, George Bartlett, served as Headmaster from 1969 to 1989. Her instinctive kindness, unwavering compassion, and selfless dedication helped to shape the fabric of 淫人色欲社, fostering a community rooted in care and connection.

This past summer, we had the privilege of welcoming Maggie back to campus for Centennial Weekend, where her warm smile and vivid storytelling brought joy to all who crossed her path. Maggie shared cherished memories and reminded us of the rich history that binds us together as a community. Seeing her back on the Hillside was a gift, as she embodied the spirit of South Kent in every way.

We will forever be grateful for Maggie鈥檚 lasting contributions to 淫人色欲社, from the guidance and care she offered to generations of students to her commitment to building a community where everyone felt valued and supported. The Hillside community joined together to honor Dr. King鈥檚 teachings, reflecting on the principles of justice, unity, and service that continue to shape our School鈥檚 values. A formal dinner followed the 5:30pm service, providing an opportunity for further fellowship and remembrance of Dr. King鈥檚 enduring legacy.

Elizabeth and Noble Richards in their early days on the Hillside.

Dear South Kent Family,

It is with profound sadness that I share news of the passing of Elizabeth 鈥淟iz鈥 K. Richards, the beloved wife of our 5th Head of School, Noble 鈥淣obby鈥 F. Richards 鈥49. Liz passed away peacefully on Monday afternoon at Noble Horizons in Salisbury, surrounded by her sons and members of her family.

Liz first arrived on the Hillside in 1956. During those early years, Liz became a mother not only to her three sons, but also to countless South Kent students and faculty children, offering warmth, encouragement, and kindness that touched everyone around her.

A Connecticut College alumna, Liz formally joined the South Kent faculty in 1977 as a member of the English department. From that time on, her dedication and commitment to South Kent were boundless. Her warmth and guidance made her an essential part of the community鈥攁 beloved teacher, a caring mentor, and a dear friend to students and faculty alike. Liz and Nobby continued to bless South Kent with their presence and leadership through their retirement in 1996, leaving an indelible mark on the spirit and history of the School.

Her impact was so deeply felt that, in 1996, the yearbook dedication read:
鈥淔or the dedication, love, patience, and guidance you have given to this community, we thank you. You are not only a part of the family but a part of the history and spirit of South Kent. As you leave the hill, always remember that a piece of your spirit and commitment to the community of South Kent will live on for generations.鈥

Demonstrating her commitment to South Kent students, Liz continued to tutor on the Hillside for several years after her retirement.

Liz鈥檚 son, Tim 鈥75, shared these heartfelt words: 鈥淪he made a difference to many people, including her children and grandchildren, SKS students, fellow faculty members, all of you, and of course our father. South Kent remained incredibly important to her for her whole life.鈥

In honor of Liz鈥檚 life and legacy, the family is planning a service on campus at St. Michael鈥檚 Chapel in the first half of 2025. We will keep the community informed as details are finalized.

Please join me in holding Tim 鈥75, Cricket 鈥78, Andy, and the entire Richards family in your prayers and in your hearts during this time.

Rest in peace, Elizabeth K. Richards. Servant, well done.

With heartfelt sympathy,
Brian D. Sullivan
Head of School
