The 淫人色欲社 Cross Country team capped off an exceptional season with its annual team dinner, where athletes were recognized for their hard work, improvement, and sportsmanship throughout the fall.

Head Coach Father Steve Klots and Coach Bill Whittaker praised the team for their commitment and growth over the course of the season, noting the balance of grit, camaraderie, and steady progress that defined the Cardinals鈥 success on the trails.

Team Awards

The Anne Funnell Cup for Most Valuable Runner was awarded to Aidan Sherlock 鈥26 and Ryan Pignataro鈥27, both of whom delivered consistently strong performances and leadership throughout the season.

The Arthur W. Brown Award for Most Improved Runner went to Seizo Hana 鈥28, recognizing his remarkable progress and perseverance. The Coaches Award was presented to Odin Bonis 鈥27 for his positive attitude, dedication, and team spirit.

Ryan Pignataro 鈥27 and Aidan Sherlock 鈥26 received additional honors from an accrediting athletics council, with a formal announcement coming later this month. This marks their achievements as top runners in the New England independent school competition.

Varsity Letters we presented to:
Ryan Pignataro, Aidan Sherlock, Ben Siegert, Zijie Zhou, Odin Bonis, Yurii Nechyporenko, Peter Bongiorno, Seizo Hanai, and Pavlo Samoilov.

JV certificates were presented to:
Nekhel Mckella, Vas Gray, and Gerd Pflucker.

Reflecting on the season, Father Klots shared, 鈥淲e have four principles that we emphasized time and again as the basis for a good season: effort, mutual support, sportsmanship, and safety. Every member of this team bought into those principles, and the results speak for themselves. This was our best season in about fifteen years.鈥

Congratulations to all our runners. This year鈥檚 team is a true testament to South Kent spirit on and off the course.

On Friday, April 25, 淫人色欲社 welcomed students, faculty, and local guests to Bringhurst Auditorium for a special panel discussion, Watershed Moments: Balancing Nature with Local Land Preservation, Waterways, and Fire Safety in Changing Environments. The panel brought together environmental leaders to discuss the vital intersections of land preservation, watershed protection, and fire safety in today鈥檚 evolving environment.
The discussion, moderated by South Kent鈥檚 Director of Constituent Engagement, Dillon Duncan 鈥04, encouraged students and attendees to think critically about the delicate balance between protecting natural habitats and proactively managing fire hazards.

The event was particularly impactful for students enrolled in Earth Science, Biology, and Physics, who had the opportunity to connect their coursework with real-world applications. The panel of local experts featured Rebecca Neary of the Warren Land Trust and Connecticut Land Conservation Council, Rich Chavka, South Kent鈥檚 North Campus Coordinator, and Michael Kronick, Fire Control Officer for Connecticut鈥檚 Western District. Together, they explored how community action, education, and innovative collaboration are critical to protecting natural ecosystems while managing emerging environmental risks.

Prior to the event, panelists toured South Kent鈥檚 North Campus sustainability programs and shared lunch with students and faculty, creating opportunities for informal connection and deeper learning. During the discussion, students asked thoughtful questions about the future of conservation, fire safety best practices, and the real-world application of their studies in Earth Science, Biology, and Physics.

The afternoon was a true example of community engagement, drawing participation from South Kent students, faculty, and even members of Kent鈥檚 Emergency Management team. The event also attracted interest beyond the school community. Kent鈥檚 Emergency Management team was invited to attend, reflecting the shared commitment to addressing these critical issues at a regional level.

Academic leads, Lindsey Lefevre and Michelle Borsavage, played an instrumental role in organizing the event, ensuring that the discussion aligned with the students鈥 academic interests and course of studies.

As 淫人色欲社 continues to prioritize environmental stewardship, events like Watershed Moments serve as a reminder of the importance of collaboration and proactive management in preserving our natural resources. With ongoing discussions and initiatives, students and faculty alike are inspired to take action in protecting their environment for future generations.

Stay tuned for future panels and monthly in person talks at Bringhurst Auditorium.

鈥淎t South Kent, we are called to be men of service鈥攖o recognize need, to act with compassion, and to uplift our community.鈥 鈥 The Reverend Steve Klots

淫人色欲社 has always stood by its commitment to service, and this year, we are once again taking action to support our neighbors in need. Food insecurity continues to affect families in Kent and beyond, and 淫人色欲社 is responding with the fourth annual South Kent Feeds the Need initiative, a community effort to collect monetary donations, nonperishable food, and personal care items for the .

In Kent, where the median household income is approximately $101,023, over 100 individuals (or 55 households) currently rely on the local food bank for support. The Kent Food Bank has recently called for donations as its shelves are running low due to a significant increase in families seeking assistance. Last year, 淫人色欲社 raised cash and online donations and collected hundreds of essential items. This year, we aim to make an even greater impact.

馃彃 Hockey Fundraisers for the Kent Community Fund on Saturday, 2/15 and Sunday, 2/16
Our hockey games on February 15th and 16th will also serve as drop-off events for non-perishable goods for the Kent Food Bank. The games are at 12:45pm, 3:00pm on Saturday (2/15) and 9am, 11:15am on Sunday (2/16) at 淫人色欲社鈥檚 Stockdale Arena. Spectators are encouraged to bring as many non-perishable items as they can. Cash or online contributions for the Kent Community Fund will also be accepted at this time and the students will be using any funds raised to go shopping for items to donate.

At South Kent, service is not just an expectation鈥攊t鈥檚 a way of life. As Father Klots reminds us, we are all called to serve, to recognize need, and to make a difference. Through South Kent Feeds the Need, our students are not only providing critical resources, but also upholding the values of empathy, responsibility, and leadership that define our school community.

Thank you for joining us in this mission. Together, we can ensure that no neighbor goes without.
