Head Coach Father Steve Klots and Coach Bill Whittaker praised the team for their commitment and growth over the course of the season, noting the balance of grit, camaraderie, and steady progress that defined the Cardinals鈥� success on the trails.

Team Awards
The Anne Funnell Cup for Most Valuable Runner was awarded to Aidan Sherlock 鈥�26 and Ryan Pignataro鈥�27, both of whom delivered consistently strong performances and leadership throughout the season.

The Arthur W. Brown Award for Most Improved Runner went to Seizo Hana 鈥�28, recognizing his remarkable progress and perseverance. The Coaches Award was presented to Odin Bonis 鈥�27 for his positive attitude, dedication, and team spirit.

Ryan Pignataro 鈥�27 and Aidan Sherlock 鈥�26 received additional honors from an accrediting athletics council, with a formal announcement coming later this month. This marks their achievements as top runners in the New England independent school competition.

Varsity Letters we presented to:
Ryan Pignataro, Aidan Sherlock, Ben Siegert, Zijie Zhou, Odin Bonis, Yurii Nechyporenko, Peter Bongiorno, Seizo Hanai, and Pavlo Samoilov.

JV certificates were presented to:
Nekhel Mckella, Vas Gray, and Gerd Pflucker.

Reflecting on the season, Father Klots shared, 鈥淲e have four principles that we emphasized time and again as the basis for a good season: effort, mutual support, sportsmanship, and safety. Every member of this team bought into those principles, and the results speak for themselves. This was our best season in about fifteen years.鈥�

Congratulations to all our runners. This year鈥檚 team is a true testament to South Kent spirit on and off the course.

Father Klots reflected on the team鈥檚 achievement, crediting the win to both preparation and teamwork, 鈥淚t helped that it鈥檚 been two and a half weeks since our last race. We had our best workouts of the year during this time, and I sensed we were on the brink of something special,鈥� he said. 鈥淥verall, it was a great team effort. Nearly everyone ran their best race of the year. The results speak of their hard work, and I鈥檓 proud of them for that.鈥�

Leading the Cardinals was Ryan P. 鈥�27, who claimed first place overall, a particularly satisfying result after finishing second to Wooster鈥檚 top runner earlier this season.

鈥淩yan lost to the top runner from Wooster by about twenty seconds in our last race,鈥� Father Klots explained. 鈥淏ut this time, he finished about seven seconds ahead of him. Improvement like that comes through hard work.鈥�

Ben S. 鈥�27 also turned in an outstanding performance, finishing fourth overall, while the entire team contributed to a dominant showing that demonstrated both conditioning and composure.

The Cardinals鈥� success was measured not only in times and medals, but also in character. Wooster Coach Ellyn Wilkinson shared her admiration for the team鈥檚 sportsmanship and class,
鈥淵our team was outstanding! Every single one of your athletes thanked me and shook my hand after the race, such a thoughtful and respectful gesture. It was noticed and appreciated by many of the spectators as well. Their character is a true reflection of your leadership and the culture you鈥檝e built.鈥�

Looking ahead, South Kent is eager to carry this momentum into the Marvelwood Invitational next week, where many of the same teams, including some who edged out the Cardinals earlier in the season, will compete again.

鈥淲e鈥檙e looking forward to the Marvelwood Invitational,鈥� Father Klots said. 鈥淢any of the same teams will be there, including some who beat us earlier in the year. It鈥檒l be interesting to see how we do against them.鈥�

With their mix of talent, determination, and camaraderie, the Cardinals are hitting their stride, just in time for the most exciting stretch of the fall season.

鈥淚鈥檓 proud of these boys,鈥� Father Klots added. 鈥淭hey鈥檝e worked hard, supported each other, and represented South Kent with pride and humility. We鈥檙e looking forward to finishing the season strong and having some fun along the way, like at the annual Kent Pumpkin Run on October 26th.鈥�

Thursday, June 5: Tee Off the Weekend
The festivities begin off campus with a friendly Golf Outing and Dinner at River Oaks Golf Club. It鈥檚 the perfect way to ease into the weekend鈥攃atching up with old friends, enjoying the scenic views, and celebrating the start of Alumni Weekend together.

Friday, June 6: Adventure, Stories, and Celebration on the Hillside
Friday kicks off with a tradition of camaraderie and adventure, as the leads a Hike to Bull Mountain, inviting all alumni to stretch their legs and take in the natural beauty that makes South Kent so special.

In the afternoon, head to Bringhurst Auditorium for Post Pigtail Perspectives to hear brief presentations on impactful experiences and insights.
Then, it’s game time! Grab a glove or cheer from the sidelines during a fun Alumni Softball Game.
As the sun sets, we鈥檒l gather for Cocktails in the Courtyard and then it鈥檚 time to head off to your class dinner at your favorite restaurant in town.

Saturday, June 7: A Day to Remember
Start your Saturday with a warm Welcome from the Head of School and hear inspiring updates from current South Kent faculty about the exciting work happening on campus today.

Next up is a fan favorite: the Annual “In My Day” Memories session in the Assembly Hall. Alumni of all generations come together to swap stories and honor the unique experiences that tie us all to South Kent.

Before lunch, don鈥檛 miss the much-anticipated Showcase and Signing of South Kent鈥檚 Centennial Book, “Enduring Foundations”, written by 鈥淔aculty Brat鈥� and beloved author Marge Smith. This commemorative moment celebrates the legacy of our school and the voices that built it.

After lunch and class photos, explore what鈥檚 new with a Tour of North Campus, led by Director Rich Chavka. Then, gear up for an exciting afternoon of athletics:

The Alumni Soccer Game (read more) on Farr Field, led by Coach Brennan and Alex Quinones 鈥�19 is expected have a big turn out and you can find more of your teammates on the .

The Alumni Hockey Game at South Kent鈥檚 indoor rink, led by Coach Belger along with Dillon Duncan 鈥�04 and Rich Brande 鈥�88

And Rowing on Hatch Pond, a serene and nostalgic way to close out the action.

Saturday evening begins with a meaningful Alumni Memorial Service in St. Michael鈥檚 Chapel, followed by the grand finale: the Alumni Dinner and Awards Ceremony, honoring outstanding members of our community and closing theweekend on a high note.
